Dahua Phasing Out FLIR Brand

Published Oct 26, 2018 13:13 PM

8 months after Dahua acquired FLIR's SMB video surveillance business (their own OEM), Dahua has told dealers that it will be phasing out the use of FLIR's brand name but not before running sale after sale after sale.

In this note, we examine Dahua's message to Dahua / FLIR dealers, the impact on FLIR and the outlook for Dahua.

Oh, and just now, ADI extended the 'flash sale':

Wouldn't it be easier if ADI just emailed when the 'flash sale' was off.

Oh, and Hikvision has not been in the last few ADI flash sales, which is interesting, though Hikvision is running a 50% sale for the next 45 days...

Digimerge goes with FLIR SMB / Dahua but it is not being used.

Ditto Lorex?

No, Lorex is still the retail brand and still live (e.g., their website).

What Dahua does in the future with Lorex, I have no idea. Just 8 months ago, Dahua did a global launch for LeChange. Just this week, they lechanged it to 'Imou'.

To me, this entire thing is FLIR selling a liability, especially with the current political climate and trade war. They ripped off the band-aid early and can focus on developing their brand for the future beyond this mess.

Normally, “ripping off the band-aid early” doesn’t speed healing :)

I can admit that I might have screwed the pooch on that metaphor, now that you point that out. Too late to come up with a better one, lol

I added a short section to explicitly note that this does not impact FLIR's other camera business:

FLIR Thermal and Enterprise Cameras Remains

FLIR continues to sell its thermal and 'enterprise' cameras, as is, under their own brand. Those were not OEMed from Dahua nor were they included in the deal / divestiture to Dahua.
