FLIR Favorability Results 2019

Published Feb 08, 2019 13:17 PM

FLIR has had a challenging past few years including FLIR Security business strugglingFLIR restructuring their security division and FLIR selling their SMB OEM Business to Dahua.

New IPVM statistics show mixed status for FLIR. On the positive side, the company's overall favorability was roughly the same as FLIR's 2016 results, as shown below:

On the negative side, integrator comments about the problems of FLIR's Dahua OEMing rose substantially.

Inside this note, we share numerous integrator comments to highlight the concerns of integrators.

We never got to sell DVTel, but I liked the demo system we tested and the people there. It's not always fair what survives and what doesn't in the industry, and not always logical.

But while perceptions have faltered, how have sales been? How are profits? Sometimes we may not like where a company has gone, but from a numbers game it maybe it made sense. We may not like where Flir has gone, but maybe it made it more profitable...? Business is business after-all.

Highly unlikely. See: FLIR Security Business Struggling and FLIR Restructures Security Division.

Thermal has more competition than ever (Axis, Hikua, Hanwha, etc.). DVTel has disappointed. DMB was divested. Not a good combination for profits.

Fortunately for Flir, when security and non-security folks talk about thermal cameras, they always refer to them as Flir cameras. Similar to Crescent Wrench... If that ever fades, Flir may have additional money issues.

I wish I could forget about DvTel, the lack of support for the product is astounding.  DvTel cameras don’t even properly work with their own VMS. The latest is the surprise end of life announcement for version 7.0 and the cessation of support for a product that has been out for less than a year in an attempt to force users to V8 software, hardware and licenses.

Well I guess we dodged that bullet.
