Milestone Launches Exacq NVR Take-Over

Published Aug 04, 2016 12:42 PM

Last year, Milestone took aim at both Avigilon (Milestone Launches Avigilon Conversion Program) and OnSSI (Milestone 'Free' Takeover of OnSSI Accounts).

Now, they have turned towards Exacq.

In this note, we examine Milestone's offer for Exacq users, analyzing the relative merits and price savings of switching from Exacq to Milestone.

I tend to be wary when i see this kinda stuff. I know there is always a drive to take a business from your major competitor. but when you run after all of your competitors you seem desperate, and leave more questions about where the future of your company is headed.

How well does Hikvision support third party cameras? I would assume most Exacq system do not have Hikvision cameras.

Hikvision NVRs support third party cameras via ONVIF and a limited amount of direct drivers. In our tests, both those integrations have worked fine, but neither support camera side motion detection.

I don't know about "most" Exacq systems, but I would think a significant number of dealers have installed the Exacq/Hikvision combo. Both were regarded as solid low cost options for some time, and I imagine on cost alone it was/is not an uncommon combo.

Though I believe that many dealers have been moving toward Hik NVRs/iVMS-4200 in the past year or so, as it's hard to beat that combination on price. So the number of Exacq/Hikvision systems may be decreasing.

Hi

Concerning Hik, my fear is that their incredibly aggressive strategy may not be sustainable ... then what? Do they raise their prices from free to ??? Else they have a better products than people believe and the iVMS 4200 (Free BTW) is all many SMB and even larger need.. We are increasingly using NVR in place of COTS for small deployments and I believe we're not alone. VMS manufacturers better take notice of this trend rather than waiting for Hik to fall. Back in the 70's American (and other) Auto manufacturers displayed similar behavior toward Japanese manufacturers ...

We have installed several Hikvision NVR units and iVMS 4200. It works but I have yet to see the "wow" response from a customer like we do with Avigilon and Genetec.
