Axis Launches First Stereographic Panoramic Camera

Published Apr 05, 2018 15:20 PM

Fisheye panoramics have not had much innovation in the past few years, with their multi-imager cousins getting most of the advances, e.g., repositionable panoramics.

Now, Axis is launching 2 new panoramic cameras including an 9MP one with a stereographic lens.

In this note, we examine the features of these new models, how they compare to Axis' current lineup, and how they impact positioning against rivals such as Hanwha and Hikvision.

Very interested in the testing of these units. We have been using the Hanwha 9010 for our standard, go to fisheye, but the price is somewhat prohibitive. The M3058-PLVE looks like a very strong replacement.

I can recommend the XNF-8010RV over the 9010 as the "standard go to fisheye". It has better low-light performance, true WDR and all the X-Series features (but a lower resolution) at a lower price point.

I will definitely be checking these out at ISC West.  I stopped using the Axis panoramics a couple years back as they were so low resolution.  These are interesting on many levels - price, WDR, and especially the stereographic lens.

Any idea if there will be an EN-50155 version?

So will they market it as a 12mp or 8mp?

They call it a "12 MP dome" on the website.

It would be very interesting to compare the image quality with a camera with Immervision lenses, where the idea is the same - to dedicate more pixels to outer part of the image (in comparison with a standard fisheye lens).

Igor, good point about Immervision. We'll also check with Immervision what are the most recent Immervision based panoramics to see the best one(s) to compare. I am not sure who is using Immervision or not these days.

[IPVM Note: Poster is from Panasonic]

It will be interesting how they will stack up against the New Panasonic extreme 5MP and 9MP 360 Cameras that have both IR and H.265. The results I have seen for Panasonic is  really good and in my mind has set the bench mark in this range.
