A decade ago, PSIM was hot with projections then of a billion dollar market by now. This has not come close to happening. However, Vidsys, one of the original PSIM providers is still around.
While the company's long-time CEO and Founder James Chong departed in April 2019, the company's new President Maurice Singleton shares with IPVM his outlook for moving the company forward.
Inside this note, based on our interview with Singleton, we discuss the following topics:
What was behind the departure of the former CEO
Why growth/expansion plans include The Middle East, but not China
Who they see as their competitors
How they feel about a move downstream to turnkey
How 'narrowing focus' will help them see 'steady improvement'
Singleton said that the "fine-tuning" they were "in the middle of" made it difficult to "drill down and provide any details."
I LOL'd at this statement. I can just see telling that to your accountants during an annual audit (extremely common for privately funded companies). "Sorry, we can't provide any financial details, we're still fine-tuning things."
I know, it was just kind of an absurd statement. Be direct and say you're not disclosing revenue numbers, not that you can't provide details because you're "fine tuning things".
My guess is VidSys will be sold in the next 6 months anyway, this does not read like they have a strategy or a strong turnaround person at the helm.
I could see Moto buying them. Avigilon does not have anything at all PSIM-like in ACC, plus it could have some value just for the book of accounts in large cities. However, given Motorola's investments along the way I'm not sure how much more they'd want to put in for this thing. Might just be a game of rock-paper-scissors among the existing major investors to see who "wins" VidSys :)
We just went through a platfirm selection RFP for a PSIM. Was between Vidsys, SureView, Situator. Landed on Situator but there is NO independent evaluations of any of the 3 that I can find.
John, any plans to do this? All these solutions are expensive to implement and require significant mfr and integrator labor cost to be successfully deployed.

No, not at this time. Mainly because those platforms are relatively infrequently used, would take a lot of time to review and might even be blocked by some vendors since they are not available generally in the channel. I am not happy to say no but not sure how to justify spending resources on that vs other areas.

Has anyone here used Vidsys / is there an IPVM review (I couldn't see one)? Curious about their product and where it does / does not perform.
The caginess around numbers + the significant investment by Motorola makes me wonder how well they are doing.
