By John Honovich, Published May 25, 2020, 07:31am EDT (Info+)

The OnSSI founders are back, less than 2 years after selling OnSSI to Qognify, they have returned to Corsight, a spin-out of an Israeli AI developer that has raised over $60 million in the past decade.

Inside this note, based on speaking with Corsight co-founder Mulli Diamant, we examine their positioning and potential in the crowded AI surveillance / facial recognition market.

What can the system do to identify individuals wearing sunglasses? No looking for a pose and shoot kiosk where the subject removes the sunglasses. Instead identifying people traversing back and forth the airplane boarding bridge and other cattle gate choke points.

Just to clarify - Corsight HQ is in New Jersey, US with the R&D center in Israel.

There is no Pearl River, NJ.

When you cross the NJ state line (from NY) you are now in Montvale, NJ

The company said they are already working on integrations with larger VMSes like Genetec and Milestone.

any plans for a Qognify integration?

they have like five VMSes over there, so...

I don't really have a question, but I do have a comment since it appears the founders are reading.

My opinion on this as someone that works very closely with a number of clients is that for any company that is doing anything in video other than a full VMS, you're not going to succeed on a large (or even medium) scale without highly-functional integrations to the major VMS platforms. At the end of the day, way too many companies are extremely arrogant about how good their product is and they don't think they need these integrations to get people to buy them, but that is, in my opinion, a complete pipe dream. You can have the greatest product on the planet, but if medium and large organizations can't see how they can fit those products into their security programs, you're not going to have success selling them to those organizations.

Furthermore, my note above about them being "highly-functional" was intentional as well. Just saying that you have an integration isn't going to be compelling. The integration needs to actually integrate into the platform in a way that is functional for the users. It should, as closely as possible, feel just like using the platform itself, except with the added features that the product offers.

I'm really glad to see them saying they're already working on integrations to Milestone and Genetec. Hopefully they will be "highly-functional" integrations like I mentioned above. Once they have the integrations completed, I'll be excited to see the product first hand.

You make good points. I am excited to see the response from the founders. 8 agree, 2 days later and still no response. People are waiting.

Please see my response below on the integration concerns. It is a must in our view as well. It is high on our agenda yet it is a process driven by strategy and demand. As of # 8 comments on the location, Corsight office is in NJ, not in Pearl River NY.

Appreciate the response, Mulli -- looking forward to seeing the product soon!

Do you have an even approximate timeline for when those integrations may be completed? I certainly won't hold you to it, but just curious if you're far enough along that you can give a rough idea. Thanks!

Yeah, I was going to reply earlier and got sidetracked, but Mulli responded shortly after my original comment, although he didn't respond directly to the comment so it didn't show up in-line.

Agreed .... I hear the frustration in your comment! One of the most frustrating things I constantly experience after many years in both building automation and security integration is the difference between a vendor/manufacturer saying their solution "CAN" do something versus saying their solution "DOES" do something.

I have worked with a number of smaller manufacturers over the years that have unique or novel solutions and would often ask them about a certain feature or integration capability that not only made sense, but was often an obvious need for them to reach the markets they were targeting. If they'd reply that their solution "CAN" do it, it was usually a case of the feature not yet existing, let alone tested.

The onus is on these new entrants to the video analytics, AI, personal heat detection, gunshot detection, vape detection, <or take your pick> to ensure that their solutions are at least on the path of integrating with the major VMS or access control systems that end users have. Those with the "CAN" do solutions will be overshadowed by those with "DOES" do solutions.

I guess that is one of the main pluses to so many more security solutions coming from or developed outside the traditional physical security industry is that the interoperability and low-level integration is expected and normal, versus the traditional security manufacturer still having the strong "non invented here' syndrome.

I could not agree with you more. One of the benefits of spending years in the security industry is the understanding that you are always part of the solution, not the epicenter of the universe. We are here to bring value to the security team by providing a tool that can recognize people even at very challenging conditions. It will help you to fortify your existing (or your new) security system, hence the name of the product.

By the time they get rolling people sellout again, rather than having a mature software that survives technology shifts, is antifragile and competes on all levels not just on eye candy, statistics, integrations and marketing. I wish them the best, let's see where they are in 1 year, 2 year, 3 year.

The OnSSI co-founders have now left Corsight. Facial recognition has been a challenging market this year, and this joins similar changes and cuts at Anyvision and FaceFirst.

Yes, it still exists. We've reached out to Corsight to try to get more comment / color on what their plans are. Corsight is still based on Cotica's technology so that's there. The question is how do they plan to sell and market it to this vertical.

Yes, Corsight acknowledged that. It was spun up specifically to take Cortica's technology to this market.

As for Cortica, I don't know their history.

Per LinkedIn, though in the last year, headcount dropped significantly:

Thank you for you concern regarding Cortica,Cortica had in 2019 and 2020 3 additional spinoffs:Cartica - solutions for the future autonomous vehicles with investments from BMW, Toyota and Continental,

seeTrue - Artificial Intelligence based Automatic Threat Detection for Screening - AI based Xray and CT for the security industry

FINTICA - AI based pattern detection in the financial sector

Hope this explains the decreased headcount,I can share that 4 additional Spinoffs are planned for 2021,

Have a great Xmas
