Honeywell Says Replace Its Hidden NDAA Banned Dahua Products With New Honeywell
For years, even after the NDAA ban was enacted in 2018, Honeywell has deceived American buyers with its hidden Dahua relabelled devices.
How will Honeywell make money with an NDAA ban and an impending FCC one? Honeywell is going right back to those buyers urging them to buy more Honeywell products to replace their existing Dahua-made Honeywell devices.
Inside this note, we examine how Honeywell aims to make money both ways and how it harms security buyers.
Replacing
Honeywell sent a newsletter declaring:
Need a compliant replacement for EquIP and Performance Series Cameras?
"EquIP and Performance Series" are the brand names for devices Honeywell has relabelled from Dahua for many years.
Even after the NDAA ban was passed more than 3 years ago, Honeywell continues to market and sell those Dahua relabelled cameras with no disclaimer about them being NDAA banned or from Dahua (See the current Honeywell EquIP product page).
"Transition Guide"
Honeywell has made a Transition Guide framed by the outside of the US Supreme Court on how to buy new Honeywell products to replace its existing Dahua products:
For example, page 4 presents a long list of newer Vivotek relabelled Honeywell NVRs that replace those Honeywell NVRs made by Dahua (i.e. the "Performance ENVRS").
Still Selling Dahua Products
Nonetheless, Honeywell continues to sell Dahua NDAA banned products without any disclosure, e.g., the "equIP" series where they exclaim that "Honeywell is taking quality and reliability to the next level with the New equIP® range of Indoor Dome cameras."
Making Money Both Ways
For Honeywell, this is good business, ethics aside. For years, Honeywell hid from buyers that they were selling them Dahua products. Now, that the US government has increasing prohibitions on those products, Honeywell can come back and sell them something to replace those products.
Value For Honeywell?
All of this begs the question: What is the value of Honeywell? They relabelled PRC's Dahua to unsuspecting customers for years. Now, they relabel Taiwan's Vivotek.
Honeywell makes money but how is this good for customers?
