Hanwha Low-Cost 4MP Camera Tested (QNV-7010R)

By: Ethan Ace, Published on Jun 11, 2018

4MP usage is increasing noticeably, as IPVM 2018 resolution statistics show.

And low-cost, fixed focal cameras, are popular for budget applications. While this segment is a stronghold of Chinese manufacturers, Korean manufacturer Hanwha has the QNV-7010R, which is similar in price to their Chinese competitors.

To see how the 7010R performs vs its 1080p counterpart, the 6010R, we bought and tested this entry-level model, examining:

  • Full light performance
  • Low light performance
  • Integrated IR coverage
  • Integrated IR range
  • WDR performance
  • Smart codec bitrates
  • Physical construction

Note: This is the first in a series of 4MP fixed focal lens testing, with entries from Axis, Dahua, Hikvision and more coming (offer your 4MP model test suggestions here) and concluding with a shootout later this summer.

Did this camera go up in price, or where do you see the QNV-7010R online for $150?

The MSRP of this unit is $429.00, and at max Gold partner level with Hanwha at 55 off list, that comes to $193.05

Maybe it’s the price for a QND-7010R?

Good question, thanks. I looked into this. We definitely purchased the camera for ~$150. I believe it must have been during a sale. I've updated the report to ~$230 online, which is the average it sells for from multiple distributors.

Also note that there is now a lower cost Hanwha line, as well, the L Series, though it does not (yet) include 4MP models, only 1080p.

Ethan,

Did you purchase the QNV-7010R or QND-7010R? One is dome, one is vandal dome, but different price points it seems.

This is the QNV, the vandal dome.

Ethan,

Might be worth noting here that like hik there are different focal lengths available and these have different LED ranges and are the same price so a 4mm or 6 mm may give better results if looking at a 65 ft scenario at night

QNV-7010R 4MP IR Vandal Dome Wisenet Q network outdoor vandal dome camera, 4MP @20fps, 2.8mm fixed focal lens (110°), triple codec H.265/H.264/MJPEG with Wisestream, 120dB WDR, IR LEDs range 65', defocus detection, hallway View, one way audio and SD card. IP66, IK10, PoE/12VDC
QNV-7020R 4MP IR Vandal Dome Wisenet Q network outdoor vandal dome camera, 4MP @20fps, 3.6mm fixed focal lens (81°), triple codec H.265/H.264/MJPEG with Wisestream, 120dB WDR, IR LEDs range 82', defocus detection, hallway View, one way audio and SD card. IP66, IK10, PoE/12VDC
QNV-7030R 4MP IR Vandal Dome Special Order Call for Leadtime Wisenet Q network outdoor vandal dome camera, 4MP @20fps, 6mm fixed focal lens (53°), triple codec H.265/H.264/MJPEG with Wisestream, 120dB WDR, IR LEDs range 98', defocus detection, hallway View, one way audio and SD card. IP66, IK10, PoE/12VDC

Jerome, thanks, that is worth calling out. But note: We tested at 60'+ because they specified 65' IR range on the QNV-7010. We do not test beyond camera's IR specs unless there's a specific reason to do so. I agree you'd probably have better results with the 7020 or 7030 at that distance, but at the expense of 30-50° angle of view.
