Exacq Raises VMS Software Pricing Twice in Less Than a Year

Published Feb 18, 2019 17:58 PM

Most VMSes regularly release new features, but rarely increase their prices. For the 3rd time in 4 years, and 2nd time in 8 months, since being acquired by security mega-conglomerate JCI/Tyco, Exacq is raising their VMS pricing.

In this note, we examine the increase, include feedback from Exacq and the potential impact of the increase.

Thanks for the info Sean. Here is what's sad is I had to find this information out from IPVM instead of the manufacturer telling me this.

I agree it’s sad. I have to believe there was an email sent out to all partners announcing something like this. Has IPVM confirmed that there was no partner email sent announcing the price changes? Changing the pricing on a single line of servers is one thing but this is a change of all license costs which effects every sale. Thus, it should have been announced.

Morning, our local TSP office informed us at the beginning of February about the price increases, noting the decrease in NVR pricing. We received updated pricing on Tuesday 12th Feb.

While we were notified on the previous 2 increases (enterprise, then the last June one) this is my notification on about this latest increase.   Both the lack of communication and the increase itself are disturbing.

I just went through my emails and we got hit with a price increase starting June 1st 2018 and the MSRP on PRO went up to $160 then. So the information they gave seems to be incorrect possibly or they failed to mention this increase last summer.

Shannon,

You are correct, our original information was pre-June price increases, and I missed that as part of the report. I updated the title of the report and clarified the increase percentages as 2 separate increases.

Even for JCI/Tyco, 2 price increases within a year is pretty amazing...

Btw, given the Exacq Founders are coming back (Qumulex) and are obviously going to target Exacq integrators, the fact that JCI / Tyco thought this a good time to raise prices really says a lot about the decision making process at the mega-conglomerate.

The easiest job in the industry may be Qumulex salesperson...

This doesn't excuse the fact of two price increases in less than a year. I get say locking hardware as the price of metal varies but this if software!! Are you kidding me. This should make us re-think exacq!

Raise prices first, add features later?  Smart marketing.  I'm interested to see these features supporting the price increase.  Maybe they should use the extra money to hire more support staff as well.

This is definitely a disappointment. Buying SSAs is already a hard pill to swallow, when they haven't fixed or acknowledged issues. Their list of new features is almost laughable. Those are basic features, and certainly not a feather in their bonnet.

I for one will certainly not be installing any new Exacq systems. The bang for your buck just isn't there. I also won't miss their arrogant and unhelpful support 'team'!

That does seem like a hefty jump up in pricing. I didn't think their channels were that expensive. Have they disclosed any justification for the increase such as new support/trainings/features?

Being a bit new to this segment (thanks in advance for your patience), are these prices quoted in the article (i.e. from $49 to $56, Professional: $149 to $168, and Enterprise: $225 to $250) per camera per month software license fees? I'm missing the granularity tied to these figures. Also, are this fees typical industry-wide and do they include the VMS appliances (hardware) running that software as well (or is that typically extra)?

Those are 'one time' license costs. Few VMS vendors sell by subscriptions, e.g., exception Genetec Launches Subscription VMS

Yes, they are normal in VMS software. They don't include the hardware. If they did, we would call it an NVR.
