Ethan, how did you calculate the bandwidth? Axis modifiers within the camera, VLC, AVInaptic?

Actual bitrate measurements from Exacq and VLC. I typically double check in AVInaptic as well, but smart codecs can do strange things to it.

By the way, %b and %B modifiers are still not working on the M30s, in case you haven't tried lately. They work again on some other models, but for some reason still not the M30s.

As a double check of the average bit rate, I'll just record 5 minutes and look at the file size. I know its low tech, but do you think its a decent way to make sure you're in the ballpark?

Yes. Just make sure you look at how long the file says it actually is in properties. Then divide file size by seconds and you should be in the ballpark.

I typically don't do that often because a lot of times we're looking for bitrate at specific times, and that will only give you an average.

I've been playing around with M3046 cameras quite a bit, these modifiers do not work "due to cpu restrictions / not enough cpu available. Guessing they are saving money by putting in cpu with less capacity? A shame as I use that setting/overlay a lot... Have a good day

Wonder why the low light performance was so poor on this. The OmniVision sensor is supposed to be pretty good.

It wasn't just this camera, other 4MP models are poor, as well, but a lot (maybe most) have built in IR, which hides the issue. See 4MP Low Light Weakness Tested.

Those firmwares on the Hik and Dahua are really old. Newer versions will give you much better bitrates, due to smart codecs, as well.

This test was completed several months ago, which is the reason for the older firmware.

Hikvision had H.264+ on in the bandwidth measurements in this test. Dahua hadn't released Smart H.264+ firmware for that camera yet when we tested. The 4421 indeed would likely be well below the Axis camera with it turned on.

Why are you comparing a Hikvision bullet to a Axis dome camera. Wouldn't the better comparison be the DS-2CD2142FWD-IS or DS-2CD2542FWD-IS for HikVision?
