Excellent move by a larger player. Axis better have something up their sleeve.
Samsung WiseNet Lite Challenges Hikvision Low Cost
It has been the 'Chinese' pushing down IP cameras at a feverish pace.
Now, Samsung is joining.
In this note, we review the features and pricing of Samsung's new Wisenet Lite series versus Samsung's WiseNet III offerings as well as Axis and Hikvision.

Everybody better have something up there sleeve. Not every customer needs or wants advanced motion detection, or Cadillac price WDR, or audio inputs, etc, on every single camera.
It may be called a race to the bottom, but the big names don't have to match the bottom ends exactly on pricing. They just have to have an option that at least gets closer less than double the cost of the bottom ends. Then I think they will win back a lot of the small and medium businesses that don't have deep budgets, and the bottom end brands will get stuck more with the do it yourselfers and infamously bad convenience stores.
Wasn't Samsungs security division sold off to another Chinese firm?
It's a Korean firm, not Chinese. I wonder when Hanwha will stop using the Samsung name.
"Hanwha Wisenet Lite" would certainly not have as much marketing punch as "Samsung Wisenet Lite"
Deal now government approved but not finalized yet. Workers opposing acquisition pledge to strike to scuttle deal.
I am pretty certain that it will be called "Techwin", not Samsung nor Hanwha, for its security business. This deal will eventually be finalized in spite of workers opposing it.
How do they compare in term of quality to Hikvision offerings? I must say that my customers and I are simply floored by the PQ of Hikvision cameras in general. Simply better in most casesThey put to shame anything you throw at them from Axis to Vivotek... According to many Dahua PQ is not far behind or on a par... So these Samsung better be good
As for the "Race to the Bottom" ... It is what it is and we must face that with innovation. We, the integrators must find ways to articulate what we bring to the table in ways our customers understand thus are willing to pay us, it actually could be an dvantage when we do not tie our quotes to camera (hardware) prices . Cameras percentage will not make us any money anymore. Services, quality usability, reliability of systems will make our difference. A different subject and a topic I would like to see addressed...
Spot on. No different from the collapse of computer hardware pricing, before when an integrator could sell a 386 based CAD system north of $5K. Now the profit's purely in the RMM (remote manage and monitor) game. Got to say I enjoy my work much more this way.
E, they just started shipping this month. We are ordering some today and should have test results at the end of this month.
Innovation - Faster, Cheaper, Smaller, Better, or all of the above. What I really like about this is that there is now an option to buy a "Chinese Priced" camera without wondering if yo uare supporting some sweatshop slave camp. I really wish my company could figure this out. I work for a large manufacturer, and frankly, I worry about the viability of our security products going forward.
I saw the new Wisenet Lite series specs and something that I don't understand is that they have varifocal lenses 2.8-12mm while the Wisenet III only have 3.5-8mm... Why this?
Manual varifocal vs motorized zoom is my best guess. This is typical.
Knowing what we know about the Chinese business and military culture, I'm confused about how we appear to be willing to risk the geo-political consequences we may be confronted with by these purchases of Chinese security products.
Is the purchase of Chinese military hardware/software far behind?
I was responding to F Undisclosed Mfr.'s comment about Chinese Priced cameras and Chinese sweat shop concerns. I should have been more specific. Tks for the heads up Ethan.
Hi
Once we get into political/ethical discussions we may have to look more than one way. True Chinese Labor standards and business ethics have been well documented and appear to be unconscionable. However most great nations have a checkered history, person the pun, once you look carefully at and into History. So let's criticize the Chinese when it is warranted but let's abstain from making broad statements. For starters let's look deep into Samsung current employee policies ...
From my own experience, Hikvision and maybe Dahua are spectacular performer at an incredible cost. I haven't seen this level of Picture Quality from the most heralded manufacturers. Makes it difficult not to look for such high price/performance ratio. To repeat another post Samsung low cost products better match this level of quality.
