#1, thanks for your first comment.
Overall, American Dynamics (i.e., Illustra) cameras are fairly mediocre. Many of them are OEMs of Dahua with similar problems to Dahua but at a higher cost.
We rarely see Illustra used outside of combination / cross-selling with Tyco's recorders, most notably Exacq (which is a strong product).
Our last test of Illustra cameras is from 2015 but from looking at their website, not a lot has changed, e.g., no 4MP, no 4K, limited lineup, etc.
Do you use Exacq or VideoEdge? What other cameras do you use currently?
Member responded to me:
Use Exacq. FLIR is second choice (Dahua also?)
In that case, I would consider Illustra but only if the savings / discounts on bundling Illustra with Exacq was sufficiently less than FLIR or Dahua.
Note: most non-thermal FLIR IP cameras are from Dahua anyway, and Dahua just bought that business from FLIR last month.
The other downside of buying Dahua from Illustra vs Dahua from Dahua is that Dahua generally has newer models. Firmware / security issues are likely for both though from what we have seen.
AD still makes cameras? I thought they folded after the last Delta Dome was laid to rest with the rest of the analog mfg dinosaurs
