New: Mobile Access Proxy Releases 'World's Smallest Mobile Reader'

By Brian Rhodes, Published Mar 04, 2020, 11:10am EST (Info+)

Mobile access provider Proxy claims its new Nano is 'the world’s smallest mobile reader' that can be installed into nearly all existing access systems.

However, Nano is not a full reader, but more accurately an adapter that requires a reader to already be in place.

In this report, we examine Proxy's claims and feedback, including:

  • Nano Mobile Adapter Key Characteristics
  • Retrofit Install Methods
  • Nano's Lower Pricing than Competitors
  • Integration with 14 Access Platforms
  • Wiegand Only Limitation
  • Uncommon Installation Process
  • Rated for Indoor-Only Use
  • Nano compared to Openpath

Run the app on your Cobalt Robot so you can now use elevators, doors with powered openers and turnstiles.

Has anyone installed the app on any android auto cars?

Reminds me of Kisi and Safetrust solutions.

With Kisi, the similarity ends with using BLE credentials. The Kisi Reader doesn't output using Wiegand or OSDP and only works with the KISI controller. With Proxy Nano, the mobile adapter is fitted as adding a mobile layer to Wiegand readers. Kisi Readers are not a retrofit adapter, but an endpoint device.

I'm not familiar with Safetrust, but it looks like a rebranded Wavelynx Ethos reader. What do you think?

Good call -- seems to be a Wavelynx reader from the nearly identical documentation (and similar pics).

FCC Wavelynx manual: "Sequence A is followed by Sequence B. Sequence B indicated that the reader communication protocol"

Safetrust reader datasheet: "Sequence A is followed by Sequence B. Sequence B indicated that the reader communication protocol"

I haven't looked at the Kisi product in awhile but from memory, I thought they had a "jumper" that pretty much did the same. Same with Safetrust but theirs was a sticker and they also had another part that plugged into the I/O to "high jack" the reader. (Not the Wavelynx readers).

Kisi is end-to-end now, but perhaps early versions had the 'jumper' you are recalling. I'll hit up my friendly Kisi "Door Security Specialist" and report back here. :)

I can ask Bernhard and Max team if you'd like.

No worries. I'll reach out for feedback. Thanks!

I confirmed with Kisi their reader is proprietary to their controller and they support no 'jumper' or setting that allows 3rd party use like the Nano in this post.

Proxy emailed us with a followup on the lack of weatherproofing for the current Nano models, telling us they expect to add resing glazing/potting early next month:

The production version of this reader, available on April 1 will be glazed to protect from the elements and is in the process of being UL certified for outdoor use.
