What Long Registration Lines At ISC West Say About The Future of Access Control

While ISC West 2024 was widely praised, the most common complaint expressed was far longer registration lines, which was primarily driven by increased checking of attendee's IDs.

With so many access control vendors exhibiting at the show, immediate self-promotion of mobile, facial recognition, palm recognition, and other tactics was commonplace.

However, these registration lines exhibit important tradeoffs amongst all access control solutions, even at a security conference. This note examines these issues and the tradeoffs of using mobile, facial recognition, and palm recognition for the show and why physical badges are not going away at conferences.
