I just can't understand how these analytic only niche companies are going to be significant players.

Things that are hard to do:

  • Building a brand 
  • Building a channel
  • Convincing buyers and integrators to buy yet another component
  • Convincing camera and recorder manufacturers that have their own competing analytic offerings to make it easy to deeply integrate with your offering

It's fine if the company just wants to max out at $5 million or $10 million, etc. in video surveillance sales, but I can't see this scaling up significantly with such inherent limitations. Change my mind.

Can't really change your mind when I agree with you :)

Having spoken to a several of these companies over the course of the last year or so (but not Gorilla specifically) I get the feeling that many of them believe there is some big wave of video analytics purchases coming. The growth/success plan is just to be on a surfboard in the water when that wave comes, assuming they will get carried along in this tidal wave of a new market.

I don't think the wave is coming though.
