Geutebrück [link no longer available] has been in business for nearly 50 years, but they are not well known within the US surveillance market.

I am curious to hear from any domestic (US) Financial End Users on their Geutebrück experiences.   Thanks in advance!

In addition to a wide range of customers from manufacturing, distribution, education and government, Geutebrück has been the solution of choice for our Certified Integrator Partners when it comes to protecting banking/financial customers.

There are two major bank end-users in North America that have branches in the southern US and Mexico. These two banks are using ~3000 Geutebrück VMS Servers, which are managing and storing video from ~30,000 camera channels. We don't publish end-user names without their expressed permission however, we could obtain permission and provide confidential contacts for a reference, if required.

Sean - you mentioned that you estimate their revenues to be $10m annually - is this a typo and you meant $100m?  i can't believe a company with 500 employees generates only $10m of revenues.

That was a typo, it was meant to say tens of millions. Corrected. Sorry about that.

Your estimation for global turnover sounds too low, $10M USD, for 500 people company. More like $100M USD? Or more?

They’re certainly doing well relative to the big (German; looking at you Bosch - inconsistent video surveillance offering) players and further afield.

Hi Sean,

Great to read IPVMs intro to Geutebruck.  Is it okay if I unashamedly plug Geutebruck?

Yes, we are crap at Marketing – (I am sure many of your North American readers are surprised to learn there is a 50-year-old company they have never heard of) but, we are so very good in other ways!

As the MD for “Geutebruck Pacific” I am responsible for covering Australia/New Zealand and parts of Asia – we are proudly the market leader and default standard for Banking solutions in Australia.  We are strong within Correctional Facilities (into the 10,000+ camera plus range in both New Zealand and Australia).  Meanwhile, our Borders, Infrastructure, Casinos, Logistics, Education, Healthcare and Safe City solutions all play a very strong position in our region.

The IPVM company profile was missing two of our greatest attributes – we have a unique database written by uber cool German developers – resulting in ultra-fast database searches and phenomenally low-latency (which is always good when controlling IP PTZ cameras).  And we love data – big data, small data, meta data, the lot! The combining of disparate data sources to our video helps paint new insights and reveal hidden treasures, lost causes and many business efficiencies.

I am lucky to have a 15-year jump on my US counterpart – and it is exciting to watch the growth in the US as you get to experience one of the industry’s best kept secrets (and crap marketing company's) – Geutebruck!

Back in 2006, the SI I worked with used Geutebruck DVR and VMD systems for perimeter monitoring  for a bunch of Oil & Gas facilities in a high threat environment. The VMD was so good for 2006 that it was made the standard for another 40 sites. We were using analog cams and we could detect intrusions at low light, fog and even through rain with negligible false alarms. I have yet to see a better motion detection capability (old Integral Systems later absorbed into Pelco DVRs capture cards was darn close).

The sales guy in our region was awesome, he did sales, configs, designs and even came down to our remote site multiple times to list down the custom software requirements needed to take over a project from Milestone (yes Milestone), he got the customization done through engineering teams in Germany and was selling a whole bunch of these Security Management Systems ( combination of VMS, Alarm management, Motion Detection and DVR) to the end user when I left the SI.

The documentation used to be sketchy and my design team used to hate the long part numbers needed to get the thing into a proposal. But these systems were very reliable and had features even systems today cannot match as Luis and Anthony has pointed out. They should hire a US marketing team (seems to be the only thing US CCTV companies are good at these days).

Dear Sean,

thank you for this pretty accurate profile - amazing what you grabbed from a one-hour phone call. The numbers are actually more into the 100 mio. $ - a bit difficult to say as the GEUTEBRUCK Group is made up of different companies - some owned by ourselves (such as our head office in Germany and our sales daughters in France or Russia), some by our business partners like Anthony and Terry.

If you or your readers Need any more detail about us, our solutions or our portfolio, just let us know. The best would be, of course, to contact us directly. One detail I'd like to add to the article is that the pricing mentioned by Terry is for the US market only - we usually do not publish prices to allow our sales channels to care for local needs wihtout being compared to other sales partners in other countries (transportation costs, customs duty, special regulations, services added such as different warranty offers etc.).

So, thanks again and looking foward to any comments or questions.

Geutebruck was one of only two finalists in our VMS System replacement competition in 2012/2013. Their platform performed well in our comprehensive testing.  A major downside to us was that they couldn't demonstrate the system in a similar casino application and we felt it was an apples-to-oranges analogy when we visited their deployment at a major public utility.

Don't get me wrong; we are still very happy with our choice of IndigoVision but I think Geutebruck would be very competitive. I believe they are now installed in at least one casino.

Dear Carl,

you are right. In the meanwhile we have installed systems in several casinos worldwide, for example the Crown Casino in Perth in Australia.

Too bad we couldn’t convince you without a casino reference project at the time.

Luis, I turned 70 last month. Time to get my travelling in while I still have my health.

Buying a Class B+ Diesel RV (17mpg) and doing the grand tour of America. Heck, we're even abandoning California for the wilds of North Carolina...

I think Geutebruck has worked out pretty well for us as an integrator. It definitely takes getting used too from the backend side of things as there are LOTS of options available, and sometimes to get them working right you have to make sure your settings are correct in a few different places. But when you get them working, it's pretty powerful!

The settings are very modular and you can mix and match them to do almost anything. For example, I can have a group of cameras change frame rate and resolution based on one of the camera's or another camera's motion detection (or a dry contact relay, or a ASCII text message over TCPIP), but only effective during certain times on certain days, excluding programmed holidays, and active during only night time hours (you program in GPS coordinates so it automatically knows sunrise/sunset times), and keep video for a set time period different from the other cameras, and drop non-motion video after 10 days and keep motion video for the rest of time in storage, or automatically archive off that video, and say after say 40 days automatically prune that video down from 15FPS to 5FPS. Whew!

You're obviously not going to use all those features on every job, but they're nice to have when you need them. The TCPIP ASCII receiver for barcode overlay helped us win one major job. And in the 8 years we have been using them, I have only seen one server ever crash. [And I did it! :) ]. The biggest challenge (for us in the U.S.) of course has been it's not as well known a name brand in the US.

I have been an end user or sales executive of CCTV equipment throughout most of my career in security. As an employee of GeutebruckUSA, who deals with this product every day, I can honestly say that Geutebruck brings the product reliability back to the high level that I have not seen in years! The dealers seem to love the low to no cost of maintenance.

Worked on a project 30+ years ago that utilized Geutebrucks VMD system.  Extremely well made and supported.  Met several field engineers and learned some valuable tips on design and setup for video surveillance.  The lengths that this company went to in ensuring that their systems would function in the field were considerable and certainly earned my respect.
