So it’s a very human dedicated screening operation requiring human test subjects every 60 minutes and a group of human test subjects every day to calibrate.
The camera doesn’t have a screen so there is a need for a PC as well it appears, adding to the cost?
PC required for Web UI of camera for setup and screening mode.
ONVIF implementation utilizes Motion Detection Event as no VMS have implemented the ability to use radiometric events "ONVIF Thermal Service". But expecting many VMS to develop ability to use the Thermal Service in near future.
Has anyone raised concern over the obvious fact that people walking through this screening are providing a perfect image for facial recognition databases. This seems very much like a forced Big Brother thing. I've heard the same about the 10 year age difference phot challenge they have done on Social media platforms like Facebook. Just curious if anyone has had any feedback where customers are concerned with this.
The facial recognition concern has been raised, especially from privacy advocates, though FLIR does not offer facial recognition and right now, it cannot even literally detect any face, might as well a particular person's identity.
LWIR is not compatible with automated face recognition. In fact, in the EU, public surveillance is closely regulated by privacy laws, and in these applications LWIR is attractive for the innate anonymity it affords.

Sure but the practical element is that typically the thermal imager is paired with a color imager that can perform the facial recognition. Moreover, the positioning of these cameras (generally/hopefully low and direct on) is favorable for doing facial recognition.
FLIR has released a marketing video showing their screening software:
One interesting point is that the camera is mounted relatively low (~3 feet / ~1 meter high). FLIR clarified to IPVM that the lower mounting height and uptilt:
minimize items in the background that might impact the measurement. A lower mounting would have the ceiling as the backdrop, which is more uniform. We see some customers mount high looking down which has a uniform background of the floor. The key is to have a clear line of sight to the person’s inner canthus for optimal measurement accuracy.
We plan to test the software and this camera setup when the software is available for the A series camera.
Flir's rolling average thresholds seems to be inspired by Fotric 226B camera's HawkAI, and surprisingly, it requires same number of samples 10 :)
