Problems Evolv School Customers Admit
While Evolv alleges it "eliminates the friction" that students experience, nine of Evolv's own customers show problems and "friction" despite Evolv trying to hide this.
Real transparency is needed so that, as communities fear school shootings, the public, parents, and students counting on these systems can fairly evaluate Evolv and other security technologies to fairly asses its value and tradeoffs.
Operational Issues
Based on data IPVM obtained from nine different school districts that are customers of Evolv, we highlight the following operational issues that Evolv school customers experience:
- Missed weapons, leading to injuries
- Significant false alarm rates (from 20% to 60%)
- Requiring removal of benign objects out of backpacks (laptops, binders, water bottles, etc.)
- Staffing requirements and additional expenses (for example, on conveyor belts)
Evolv tries to suppress this information, which it defends as its "transparency" policy. IPVM and other organizations continue to request public records from public schools to provide real transparency.
