Bill Gates Funded Startup Evolv Gets $18M For The "Most Advanced Threat Detection System"

Published Mar 17, 2017 12:39 PM

Evolv Technologies has just raised $18 million, bringing its total to $30M, for developing what the company says is the most advanced threat detection system designed to prevent mass casualties - in other words, find people carrying weapons into places like airport or stadiums.

CEO Mike Ellenbogen [link no longer available] spoke with IPVM about their technology, and the companies plans around their body scanner and other upcoming products.

In this report we analyze Evolv's technology, price tag, and target markets.

IPVM

Based on their presentation/pitch deck it looks like they are somewhat closer to ThruVis in that the scanner is "one sided", people do not need to walk through a specific walkway created by the device.

There is no information on maximum number of people it can process, and they highlight the fact there is no image of the person taken, but that seems like it would make it harder to find the actual person with a weapon in a group.

No price is given just that it has a TCO lower than existing millimeter wave systems.

If they are at ISC West I will try to get more details/info.
