Amazon Echo Look Fashion Camera Tested

By Rob Kilpatrick, Published on Oct 27, 2017

Can deep learning make you look good?

That is what Amazon's Echo Look, a "Hands Free Camera and Style Assistant", claims to do.

We bought this new camera to see if these claims were all hype or if these analytics actually worked.

The video below shows basic use of the camera, using voice control to take a photo of the subject's outfit:

Inside, with a series of screenshots and video, we share out test results of how the deep learning and the overall unit performed.

Conclusion:  Shorts and hats are inferior style choices.

So... who got the best score, and wearing what?

I'm curious which Flavor Flav outfit the Echo Look prefers - and why:

Alexa. Tell me a clock joke.

Note that the Echo Look cannot be used for security purposes...

Maybe outside of changing rooms to detect when someone leaves looking with ‘fatter’ than they did on the way in?

Helpful clarification - so as to detect someone shoplifting clothes...

Is anybody else left scratching their heads that Amazon thinks it's a great idea to put a camera, connected to the cloud, in the bedroom/closet to monitor women getting dressed? I'd laugh if it wasn't so bizarre. And now Amazon also wants you to put their camera-to-cloud alarm clock on your bedside table. Ohhhkay. I guess there are a whole lot of people out there that are much more comfortable and trusting about the prospects for some of these new products....
