Comments (10)

The new product introductions from the industry manufacturers and non-manufacturers are getting ridiculous! Groundhog Day!

Ethan an friends are going to have to start running around the block to simulate elevated temperature or you’re going to have to invest in a sun lamp (or both) to meet the stringent testing criteria outlined in this manufacture’s comments. No bottle warming permitted.

On one hand, IPVM will have the most healthy team around if this keeps up. Unfortunately, you’ll all have skin cancer in a dozen years.

And the increasingly absurd attempt of manufacturers and marketers to deliver a solution that will not work for the intended purpose of preventing or even reducing the spread of the virus, or making the populace in offices or factories more “safe” is increasingly nauseating. Sorry about the runs on sentence. No pun intended.

Let me get this right, am I understanding that Dahua does not want you to test subjects that have fevers which would help prove that their product works as intended?

All I know is that is one Motley crew up in there! 😉

Great work guys, keep it up!!!

What is, "simulated elevated temperatures"?

In our testing, we artificially warm subjects' skin to simulate elevated temperatures. We heat up different parts of the face, depending on manufacturer claims (e.g., whether they measure specifically on the forehead, inner canthus, entire face, etc.).

For example, the image below shows a typical subject with his entire forehead heated from the eyebrows up:

I specifically do not like using the term "simulated fever" in this context, just because we want to be clear that this is elevated skin temperature, not fever. The two are different things. That is why I use the term "simulated elevated skin temperature."

Hi Ethan, great detailed review. Thank you!

Were you guy successful in getting this setup (when paired with their NVR) to send email notifications of elevated temperature alarms?

That feature was added recently to the unit without an NVR requirement.

Thanks UM1! Can you please elaborate?

We didn't test that feature. I've had luck in the past with sending emails from Dahua recorders, but I believe at least back then it was a little touchy with webmail accounts, e.g. Gmail. I'm not sure if that has changed, but we can look into it.
