Dahua Specifies Uyghur Man Whose Religion is Islam In Community Security API
Dahua specifies a person who is Uyghur, a man, and whose religion is Islam in its API guide for a residential security platform it offers in the PRC (China).
The platform tracks a vast array of categories, including people's religion, ethnicity, education status, marriage status, and even blood type.
While the platform does not explain why it uses a Uyghur man practicing Islam as an example, this raises discrimination concerns given PRC repression against Uyghurs and Dahua's own history of offering Uyghur alarms to PRC police.
UPDATE: Dahua says the Uyghur/Muslim/Male example is "a single data field among hundreds" and "there is no effort here to single out or target any specific ethnic group". IPVM followed up asking why Dahua has ethnicity and religion markers for a community security platform and whether this data is meant to be shared with PRC police.
