The above report is slightly inaccurate in the way it describes devilry of the alarms.
The alarm events are delivered by SMTP protocol, directly to the SMTP server.
Whilst email is also delivered using SMTP, there is an important distinction between an alarm sent via email and one sent directly (and securely) to an SMTP host which is part of the analytics server. This should reduce any latency to an acceptable near-real-time amount.
I have run several thousand (deliberately poor) alarm events through the Calipsa platform and have found the results very promising so far! ;)
