Has anyone ever seen gender analytics function properly? I keep seeing it inside of various analytics products but have never seen it perform any where near useful. It seems like aside from either highly invasive video or flipping someone over and probing there is no way for gender recognition to be greater than 50% accurate. I honestly don't understand why gender recognition is marketed given that it never seems to be even moderately accurate... this weak feature seems to undermine the whole package and this is not unique to Briefcam.

Just goes to show that you shouldn't assume gender. :-)

Is there much of a use case for gender analytics in the security space? Gender analytics, in my opinion, are going to be used for marketing and operational purposes. Not so much security.

It’s going to be interesting to see how these third party analytic plugin companies are going to evolve over the next 5 years. Companies like Avigilon, Vaion and Verkada are embedding a lot of the same technology, as a standard offering, in their VMS’s for less cost, less hardware, less labor...etc.

Things like: "Be on the lookout for a white male, age x-y, wearing a hat, black jacket, etc." This also raises the risk of using racial or ethnic analytics, things that few AI providers offer including the ones mentioned here - Avigilon, Anyvision, Briefcam, offer. Good point......but, the objects in that scenario gives the analytics a better chance at finding the perp than an age estimation ever will. Do think the data for marketing and operations is where the money is at?

Do think the data for marketing and operations is where the money is at?

I think there is 'money' on both sides. Generally, surveillance focused vendors have had difficulty building and selling analytics for marketing and operations, as they tend to want different products and buy through different buyers/channels.

@John have you done test with various ethnicities? It looks like most tests at IPVM are done with Caucasian males. I'm curious if results for age, facial rec or hat/shirt detection will vary depending on the persons ethnicity.

Robert, we have a general challenge of how to test with significant numbers of people give privacy concerns, so no we don't have much variety in ethnicity and more broadly variety at all. It's something we are trying to figure out how to do without violating privacy, etc.

Additionally, though less common, many adults were classified as children in our tests.

You must have had the Personality Detection Module installed ;-)

It would be interesting to understand how many streams single GPU can handle simultaneously and what type of GPUs are supported in that regards.

Briefcam partners have access to an Excel spreadsheet where you can input project data (number of cameras, resolution, storage time, etc.) and get hardware suggestions. The amount of required GPUs is part of the suggestion that is generated.

From the article:

"BriefCam requires at least two GPUs to use the full suite of features, as GPUs must be dedicated to either real-time/live alerts or on-demand/video synopsis processing. A single GPU cannot be used for both."

"BriefCam does not specify exactly how many streams a given GPU may handle, as it depends on resolution, framerate, and bitrate."

From the BriefCam website:

What are the graphical processing unit (GPU) requirements for the BriefCam solution? | BriefCam

What are the graphical processing unit (GPU) requirements for the BriefCam solution?

The BriefCam Processing Server requires an NVIDIA GPU to process video. The exact model and amount of GPU cards required will depend on the requirements of the resolution of video to be processed along with the number of hours of video to process per day.

For a system with a large video processing requirement, multiple GPUs can be installed in each processing server, as well as the ability to utilize multiple processing servers simultaneously.

Each GPU installed in the BriefCam server must be assigned to process video in a specific processing mode, either for on-demand processing (REVIEW and RESEARCH modules) or for real-time processing (RESPOND module), a single GPU cannot process video both real-time and on-demand.

Any average number you can share for HD cameras (not sure how storage time is relevant)?

I'd prefer if IPVM reached out to Briefcam to try to acquire that information as I don't know if information from the partner zone is to be considered confidential/"eyes only" or not.

Storage time is relevant in general when calculating hardware requirements for Briefcam as it pertains to how Briefcam handles and stores video and metadata when performing an investigation/synopsis, but obviously not relevant for just calculating GPU needs.

I see plenty of benefits here. This seems like a well developed product.

What else am I not seeing or reading here? What are the reasons to look at another product? (Avigilon is out of the price range for my given client.)

What is included in the Starter kit for $20k? How many licenses? Can it be expanded upon, add more licenses, more GPUs, more servers?

UI6, I contacted Briefcam about server details and they informed me that the starter kit (which are specific to Milestone/Genetec) includes 2 concurrent users and 50 camera licenses which can be expanded to 200 licenses. As far as adding more GPUs their feedback is below.

The user should technically be able to add an additional Quadro RTX 4000 GPU into that server by themselves but might also need to increase the RAM to 128GB depending on the expected processing work load.

Is there a setting that groups search criteria that can be similar or mistranslated (human error). Ie. Red car, red clothes can look orange as they certainly do to me at least in some of the subjects in this test.

I would think search for red as priority, and then sub results where it the software says "similar."
