Amazon Deep Learning Partnership With AgentVi

Published Jan 15, 2018 14:20 PM

Amazon is aiming to grow its Kinesis Video Streams offering that "enables you to quickly build computer vision and ML applications" in the cloud. One of their new partners is video analytics developer AgentVi.

But what benefit does this provide? How does it work? What tradeoffs in cost and design does it bring?

IPVM spoke with AgentVi's CEO to better understand the offering, and how AgentVi plans to position this cloud offering. Our analysis inside.

Having signed a MSA with Amazon, I have serious doubts that AgentVI would be able to breathe Amazon's name in the same sentence as theirs... I would suggest that you would investigate Veritone and their partnership with Amazon.

What does 'breath Amazon name in the same sentence'? Can you express this in clear English without a metaphor? Thanks. I just do not understand.

Come on Big Green, you can discern what a metaphor is. I find it hard to believe the statement.. "Amazon approached them"... Veritone is has been very aggressive in getting analytics vendors to sign up for their platform.

I asked a genuine question. Thanks for the clarification but not the rude response.

I agree with Undisclosed #1 in that conspicuously missing from the original Agent VI press release cited at the beginning of this article is any contribution from Amazon. It is not a joint press release, and if not for this latest article I would have thought that Agent VI simply latched onto Kinesis on its own. If it is a true partnership, it should ring the bell of all video companies either working in the cloud now, or with aspirations of doing so, to reach out to Amazon's business development and see what the upside can be.

Amazon lists AgentVi on the main Amazon Kineses webpage as part of Amazon's 3 chosen case studies.

We are not going to spend time validating whether Amazon asked AgentVi or AgentVi asked Amazon. It's petty and not very material.

However, one thing is for sure, to get on Amazon's website, it means that Amazon is not only fully aware of what AgentVi is doing but Amazon thinks enough about it that they chose to feature it on their own website, which is a good sign for AgentVi.

More accurately, AgentVI is a "customer" of Amazon's Kinesis. Yes, kudos to AgentVI PR dept. There are a lot vendors that use AWS for SaaS infrastructure (EC2/S3/etc) that don't get featured.

There are a lot vendors that use AWS for SaaS infrastructure (EC2/S3/etc) that don't get featured.

I am sure there are but in this case, it's not simply for EC2/S3, etc., it's specifically for Kinesis Video Streams, which is new.

In this exchange, I've presented evidence, you've just vented your anger.

John, I have no idea why you think I am angry or rude - these interpretations are subjective, especially via text and not accurate. I am simply making a point that a partnership (headline) is not the same as customer/consumer.

They are two separate things, I discussed this with their CEO.

AgentVi was using AWS to host their innoVi cloud offering, for that they are a customer of Amazon. According to AgentVi, when Amazon rolled out the Kinesis offering, AgentVi was invited to be a partner in that, which was directly related to their previous use of AWS, and running their analytics successfully on that platform.

AgentVi was not using Kinesis as a customer as part of their innoVi cloud previously, as I understand it, though they may migrate their commercial offering to Kinesis, as it would be easier to maintain overall (essentially "dogfooding" their product).

Amazon has made AgentVi's product available to a broader audience, in a way that would generate revenue for AgentVi, as part of this partnership.
