Nice write up, I have seen random issues with CVI not working with other all-in-one DVR's too. Did you guys do any testing with Spectrum/NX?

Jul 06, 2017One important thing to note is (possible example is the top picture in the report showing all 4 formats) that image quality out of the same camera (a multi-format camera) can be different depending on the tuning of the camera. We need to check new multi-format cameras with various DVR vendors and analog HD formats to tune image quality to be good. If customer uses an off-brand recorder or one that is not as popular and we could not/did not tune camera with that specific recorder platform, the image quality will vary. You will (should) still get a proper color image but there could be notable color rendering differences. Something to be aware.

You could make a custom driver for it perhaps, but out of the box, no support.

Jul 06, 2017It works out of the box with Spectrum/NX Witness. I've tried a few CVI/TVI/AHD/Analog DVRs without much reliability. That's why this is appealing to us. The licensing for these units with Spectrum is also very good. I believe the encoder also comes with one license which is good for 4 channels. So for us it's worth it.

Can you be a bit more specific about "not reliable" please? Is it similar to CVI issue show in this test?

Mar 26, 2018We've used this unit quite frequently, but recently ran out of the 3MP TVI cameras we had been installing and had to switch to the 5MP TVI 4.0 models. This unit has not played nice with these cameras at all, and they only work when preset to 1080p and even then we could not get UTC to function. I WAS able to use a 16 TVI 4.0 with Spectrum on this job, but unfortunately doing so forced me to use 16 licenses instead of the 4 channel encoder license. This came at my expense, and while I'm not mad at either Hikvision or DW for this integration fail it was disappointing. This had become my go to for budget conscious clients, back to the drawing board I guess.

Mar 27, 2018I recently tried to get a Dahua 32ch DVR to integrate with Spectrum and could only get the first channel to stream both streams. As we added another channel via ONVIF, it would fail. You could of course force channels in single stream via RTSP, which was my only option until I can update the firmware from Dahua. Hopefully this latest firmware will do the trick. Otherwise I will be forced to record the high stream across all 32 channels continuously, as well as VMD on the high stream, which kills server performance.
