2 things:

It is good for the industry to have Samsung / Hanwha continue to release new product. The industry benefits from having a diversity of healthy suppliers with new releases which is something that has declined over the past few years.

One minor thing that might be of interest to PR / marketing people. We recommend you do not make announcements on Friday (which is what Hanwha did here). End of week announcements in any field (politics, business) are meant to bury negative things (like layoffs, firings, bad financials, etc.). The reason is that Friday is a shorter day for many business people and then the weekend hits, where business interest goes way down. Also, last Friday was the US Presidential inauguration, which only happens every 4 years and is a major news event even outside the US, further drawing attention away. Net/net: make announcements early in the week (Tuesdays are typically best) and avoid holidays and major events so that people are attentive to your news.

Janet Fenner would not have released this on a Friday!

Very sound advice, John. Even for manufacturers with worldwide distribution a strong grasp of the subtleties of the different major markets are a definite weak point. That was a contribution well worth charging for!

Advanced WDR: Wisenet X claims improved WDR, specified at 150dB using 4 exposures and no blurring, which they claim is a "critical weakness of existing WDR."

150dB WDR at 30fps is a significant claim, even granting manufacturers variance in the "methods" used to arrive at such specs.

Are there any plans to test this in the near future?

I don't really consider any WDR dB spec a significant claim. I've seen them creeping up over the past couple of years without much improvement (if any), and lower dB spec cameras outperforming higher.

But that being said, yes, we'll be testing Wisenet X when it's shipping. Some should start this month, but not sure which models yet.

It does sound like they are saying the right things at least, e.g. the quad-exposure.

What has your experience been with any of the other new WDR cameras that use three or more exposures?

Any ETA on when we can expect a test report? Are you going to be waiting for the full deployment or are you going to test the initial rollout?

Good question! We're looking at models now. I'd say at the earliest it will be the middle of March for a report.
