Jun 24, 2016It's unlikely, since static and unmoving magnets have virtually no effect on electrical fields.
<edit: though noting that any electric current technically creates a magnetic field, which could interact with a static magnetic. Like a coil, for instance. Still little electrical effect is likely, unless the field is so strong it were to dislodge the coil, again unlikely>
<edit2: probably not a good mounting method in an mri room though>

Jun 24, 2016I know of an office that's had a few of the old Axis M3014s that used magnets for the dome for about 8 years now. They look dated to be sure, but nothing seems to have gone awry due to the magnets.

Is it actually 2" in circumference or diameter?

Jun 27, 2016The S15 camera module is very small, but requires a base unit (below). The FD816C is self contained.
There are smaller Axis P12 and F series camera modules as well, but they all require the base unit.

please feel free to disagree, but IMHO, some looking for the "World's Smallest Recessed Mount Camera" is probably interested in the smallest looking recessed mount camera, i.e. the most discreet. Not always, but typically perhaps. So maybe some might be disappointed to find that there were smaller footprint units out there.
Btw, when you are using more than a single camera within 20 feet of each other, one s12 can handle two camera modules and also cut the Ethernet ports needed and cable length in half.
Also, the depth of the s15 is only 33mm, so will fit in the same spaces as the Vivotek as far as depth is concerned.

Yes, I wasn't pinning it on you. Still I think it's worth pointing out that smallest doesn't mean smallest looking.
The reason to mention that 2 units go to one base is that, if you have 2 cameras (or 4) sharing one, the total space consumed per camera average may rival the Vivotek.

I don't disagree. However, when said people find out they have to deal with a separate base unit or an enlarge "dongle" connector, it's often a problem since you have to find somewhere to put it, it's bad practice to leave it laying out the ceiling, etc. We've had discussions related to that in the past.

Jun 28, 2016I don't disagree either with that. Hopefully people look at enough of the Axis/Mobitix/Avigilon docs to see that there is a base unit involved.
With Vivotek's claim though, I don't see anyway of telling what they are referring to, and in fact it leads one to believe that the visible part of the camera is what is the "World's smallest"
when its not even close.
