The most well known 'professional' security robot, Knightscope, is asking $50,000 per year per robot.
Now, another startup, is promoting 'the robot that will change the world' for a retail price of just $229.

This comment actually raises an interesting point. What do you do if you have a home alarm AND a home security robot?
Would the security robot set off PIRs?
Will there be a new market for "robot immune" PIRs like there are for pet-immune PIRs?
Something a little bit more robust (better battery, bigger tracks, better camera, etc.) and under $1,000 would be very appealing. Sometimes we get in a pinch budget wise and can't even hire contract security to keep an eye on things.
If we had the ability to control a number of these robots from our GSOC with a user friendly GUI that my dispatchers could just quick pull up and shoot one of these out to check on something it would be a dream come true. Really need the ability to program a tour/pattern/route and have software to interpret a 360 camera into something usable. Once it has that I am sold.
You comment is more realistic option than drones. New Virtual Reality headsets could be used to navigate a property. We're getting a little science fiction here, but this is our new reality. Even at 3-4K this would still be less expensive than an onsite security guard.
Has there been any mention from these companies on pathway memory or some kind of uploaded map that could theoretically keep the robot from getting out the front door and disappearing into the world, rather then just "patrolling" a set perimeter?
Matthew, the two professionally robots come with that - Knightscope Security Robot Examined, Vigilus Robot Examined.
Farmers are kicking the crap out of the security industry when it comes to using robots to get stuff done:
Do you know if those robots are in commercial production/available for sale?
Some of those seem like they could be adapted to security uses.
Actually, it doesn't look like they are commercially available... :(
It looks like they were created for agricultural research by a bunch of folks at the University of Sydney
Here are their robots: http://confluence.acfr.usyd.edu.au/display/AGPub/Our+Robots
Here is their main page: http://confluence.acfr.usyd.edu.au/display/AGPub/Welcome+to+Agriculture+at+ACFR
...I agree that some of these could be cross-purposed for our industry. :)
