If your only goal was license plate capture, you could make adjustments to the shutter speed to achive this goal. But, you would lose the ability to see much else than reflective surfaces or other bright light sources.

Similar to the Dahua HD-CVI...

I know it's IP not CVI, but do you think this is this actually a Dahua under the covers?

It is Dahua.

Yes, agreed. Maybe this one? And $300 less than even the FLIR. Though I'm aware there are downsides to buying them online, I'm just not sure what they are?

Hi,

I noticed that you touched a weak spot of a lot of outdoor Full HD PTZ domes : focusing! In that respect I would love to see what happens to similar hi-end camera's from bosch, samsung, axis, panasonic. In my experience the Bosch VG5-7230-EPC4 did a good job (while the Bosch Autodome 7000 20x did NOT). Other interesting models to evaluate Samsung SNP-6320H, Panasonic WV-SW598 AND AXIS Q6045 Mk II.

Thanks in advance,

Filip

Ethan,

What VMS did you use in testing this and what others have you tried with this ptz?

In this test, we used Exacq 6.4. It worked without issue (PTZ control, presets, tours, etc.). We also added it to Avigilon without issue. We didn't try any others for this test.

How smooth or jerky was PTZ control?

Ethan,

Perfect, thank you for the quick reply...

The focusing issue kills it for me, at least in applications where one needs to track movement. I will stick with analog unless other ip cameras can handle this better.

Ethan,

In regards to the blurriness you discuss in the video (and what has been touched on in discussion) was that only an issue at night like in the video or was it blurry in the daytime as well when in motion?

Good question, I thought of that too but didn't ask.

What kind of support are you getting from Flir? My authorized distributor called for pricing a week ago. Still no response. I cant say I'm excited.

C, we get support direct from FLIR for testing (like we do with most manufacturers) but that's not representative of the typical integrator.

My understanding is that FLIR is distributed through a number of distributors such as Anixter/Tri-ED, ADI, Scansource and a bunch of others.

Btw, if your distributor is authorized, shouldn't they already have pricing? I am not sure if I understand.

If you contact me offline (john@ipvm.com), I can help facilitate a connection if that helps.
