What Are You Doing To Reduce Vibration?

We have a few PTZ's on top of silos, most of them are OK but the silos that are closer to truck traffic see a lot of vibration. Does anyone have any thoughts on how to help reduce vibration, most of the time it's not a problem. However, if the client zooms the PTZ in all the way it can get pretty shaky.

Are the cameras mounted to the silos, or are they installed on mounts (ie: gooseneck, mansard) installed on the silos?

PTZ's are currently hanging from wall mounts that are mounted on a plate that stretches across the silo.

We're putting in 6 more PTZs on several different silos on the same campus in a couple of weeks and I'm trying to figure out a better solution.

This sounds tough, given the silo is vibrating and that is the mounting platform. There is no method of isolating movement, short of making the silo rigid or dampening shock in the structure.

Using an exotic gyro stabilized bracket might help, but it is not cheap and can add $2k - $3k to the install.

For all, other recommendations are in our Camera Vibration / Stabilizer Solutions note.  Low frequency and repeatable pattern vibration might be improved by using a camera with anti-vibration or stabilizing features in the software, but are unlikely to completely solve the issue.

Also, any software post-processing done will likely add to latency, which might be tolerable in a fixed camera, may not be in a live operated ptz.

Agreed. But considering my smartphone does an incredible job of software based image stabilization in near real-time, it seems like this could be easily done (with added cost) specifically for PTZ's which is where it really matters.
