Any Recommendations For A POE Supported Test Monitor?

Does anyone have any recommendations for a good IP camera test monitor (the IP camera equivalent of a portable CCTV monitor). I need it to provide it's own PoE, and was looking at the Axis T8415, but this device doesn't have it's own monitor.  We do a lot of correctional facilities and sometimes aren't permitted to bring cell phones in, so I would prefer to get one with a built in monitor.  There are a ton of them that come up with a google search, which look like two different models sold under a hundred different brands.

Any experiences, recommendations, or things to look out for would be appreciated.

I have that model. It works. Pretty slow. Decent screen. Has a web browser and android apps.

A tablet with a battery pack is better, but not as convenient.

I customized an old windows tablet that had an Ethernet port and an extended run-time battery. Tapped into the battery connection and wired power into the Ethernet port for POE Out.

Thank you! I was looking for any experience with these type of things. I have a PoE battery which works OK, but need something easier to use and harder to break to send out into the field on a regular basis.  When you say it is slow, how slow are we talking about? Enough to be annoying, or slow enough to really be a problem?

How did you get 48V out from the battery on the tablet for PoE? I dont think I want to go that way for something to send out with our field techs, I am just really curious how you pulled that off?

Sorry, I should clarify, 12v POE Out. Don't think you can find a laptop with 48v anywhere.

And you are correct, it wasn't quite "field tech" approved. But it worked good.

Once or twice a year I do a search for laptop with POE out, but unfortunately get the same results. Nada.

It's not that bad. 30 sec to boot up. Couple seconds longer than normal to pull up website. IP scan a /24 subnet in 10-15 seconds.

You know how the kids are these days. If it isn't the newest Ipad or GalaxyTab it's unbearably slow.

EDIT: Mine is a couple years old too. So I'm sure it has improved some.

Thank you, I was worried that it was taking minutes to bring up the webpage for a camera, which would eat up a ton of time doing 50 or 60 cameras.

I didnt even think about being able to do that from this device, but I guess anything available on the google app store should work here. I almost cried when Apple took away access to MAC addresses in iOS 11.

I am going to order one to try out.

I don't have anything to compare it against, but for the money I think it is a good buy.

And I thought google app store was available, but I don't see it on the one I have. So you may double check that if you require special apps. The built in apps accomplish the basic CCTV and LAN tests and tools.

The web browser hiccups on certain sites, but refreshing page usually fixes problem.

We have a test of the IPC-8600 here, which worked pretty well but was a little slow. It  opened most ONVIF cameras without issue. It has some direct drivers, but they were less reliable.

Since this test was published several members have commented that they had trouble connecting cameras.  Hope this helps.

I believe that Axis unit is a rebranded Veracity Pointsource Wireless POE Injector that can be had for at least $140($459.95) less. Not sure if the Axis branded unit has better integrated Axis performance or not but it does have a dedicated app.

In any case the Triplett CamView IP Pro+ 8073 is a solid(and more expensive at $699.99) all in one unit that can provide POE and test some analog(CVI/TVI 3.0 and AHD 2.0) products as well.

Let us know what you go with and maybe some pros and cons down the road. Real world use is the best review.
