The Research

after spending considerable time and sparing no expense analyzing the marketplace, I noticed that although there are a number of analog/ip hybrid (even tribrid and pentabrid) devices out there, there were almost less than none that combined the strengths of both real and faux into single form factor.  then after confirming with several prominent manufacturers that their R&D departments were not up to speed on real/dummy hybrid technology (ReDum for short), I knew I had to try.

btw, several of the manufacturers were actually quite kind to a potential disruptor, such as myself, offering encouraging words (“let us know how that turns out!” and “why didn’t we think of that?”).

The Need

cameras can be a deterrent to crime, but paradoxically, they can be an crime attractant as well. and the more obvious and aggressive the style of camera, the more it deters, but also the more likely some roving band of camera vandals lay waste to your whole kit.

but what if you could have the best of both worlds; a camera with a severely aggressive profile that was virtually immune to vandalism, whether by ropes, baseball bats, wire cutters or spray paint?

The Technology

basically the idea is to use the dummy as a decoy, and thereby provide a way for the vandal to fulfill his need for destruction, but at the same time not compromise security.  unbeknownst to the would be attacker, the real camera is not in the housing but rather in the base, and it’s much wider angle than the apparent fake FOV, so it catches the approach of the perp as well.

ReDum in action:

the housing is made from recycled plastic harvested from old AT&T princess phones from the 80’s, virtually unbreakable and cheap!  when struck, the camera housing’s break away mount allows it to fall without damage, although it seems to be quite out of order!

though the real camera has recorded everything and continues to record, even if the housing dangles for days.

it can easily be remounted in seconds...

The Parts
