Does anyone have a failure rate of outdoor PTZ camera and outdoor Fixed camera in three-years?

Good question. I am sure manufacturers have their own internal numbers.

We have a general post / stats on that here: IP Camera Failure Rates, however, it does not break down for outdoor and PTZs, which I am sure are higher, though how much higher I could not stay quantitatively with confidence.

For Axis I generally see a sub 1% failure rate over a 5 year lifespan.  At 5 - 7 years this seems to increase to as much as 5%.

Pelco has been much the same.

Sony/Panasonic have been higher, maybe 5% for us over that type of span.

Thank You,

Chris

What do you consider as failure for a PTZ? What happens if a PTZ Camera can no longer function as a PTZ, but still functions as a fixed cameras?

If the user is ok with it being a fixed camera, it may still have some usefulness, but if a PTZ camera cannot PTZ, then it's failed.

Then my experience is somewhere around this:

Axis: ~1% Failure Rate Over 3 Years.

Bosch: ~0% Failure Rate Over 3 Years. (Have seen any fail yet)

Dahua: ~10% Failure Rate Over 3 Years.

HikVision: ~5% Failure Rate Over 3 Years.

Can I ask how you’ve calculated this failure rate?

P yes, T less, but never had Z failure, I must confess.

I consider failure any time when it requires a service trip. Video but no movement, or movement but no video or complete shutdown and etc...

Going back to my integrator and security manager days, the guys above are pretty accurate.

Chinese brands and OEMs have the highest failure rates in my experience.

After 10 years installing IP cameras as streaming webcams working 24h / 365d in very oscillating places (Mountain to more than 3k meters of height with registers -32ºC, in first sea line and in places with temperature in the sun of almost 50º) the only ones with 0% faults after 10 years have been Mobotix.
I installed from different manufacturers and some of them did not last nor 7 days.
The average duration of other manufacturers is around 3-4 years. This has been my experience.Timelapse
