Confused About Covert Cameras...

Hi All, I don't post much, but I am running into Moral, Ethical and Image quality questions with Covert cameras.

My problem... I need to install a few covert cameras at the 5 foot heights mark.

Moral... Buying anything made by Hikvision. To this day, the best camera we have is a DS-2CD6412FWD-30. It is an internal camera and just gives me great pictures (Purchase before we knew about BAN, on a separate network with no internet access)

Ethical... I tried buying American (Aerocont) then found out they weren't doing so well... and the camera looked great om paper until we installed it. Lousy WDR, not good beyond 10' and no where near the images we get from the Hikvision.

Image quality.. Dilemma... I was looking at the Covert Camera Shoot-out and discovered the Hanwha nbd 6001. It looks good on the shoot-out, comparable on the specifications, but I can't find one online to test before I switch and order from my supply house. A asked a fellow retailer hand he thought he read somewhere that they were made in the same factory (Hanwah family Korean vs Chinese government manufacture; the specs a similar enough that I am doing a pause.

Right now my client, a high end mall jewelry store recently had their lawyer weigh in on several incidents ranging from fraud to grab and Run. The policy of asking walk-ins to remove baseball caps and dark sunglasses has met with resistance. We are retrofitting legacy camera systems and adding covert cameras.

So, My Question is simply put can anyone verify that the Hanwha XNB-6001 is not related to the Hikvision DS-2CD6412FWD-30?

and possibly a review of the Hanwha from someone who has one?

 Thanks!

Valid scope and question. I will guess, Hanwha and Hik are not the same; however analyzing the white papers should yield definitive design differences.

Korea and China are two different countries.

Costs. It sounds like the customer has an opinion regarding manufacturer source/creation. Hik vs Hanwha ..... ? are they polar opposites. I hope IPVM can explain/plot the manufacturer boundary and applications/affiliations between the two.

Despite all the manufacturers you and your customer is aware of, or has specified where do you stand on a deliverable solution?  ....I do X camera type and maintain X camera type because...these 5 customers over 3 years are satisfied with maintenance cost, services and future expansions.

I have a solution; I have used the Hikvision before and like the performance. I am just wanting to move away from the bad press. If you are curious, I am removing a legacy NVR to put in a Milestone NVR. I ran into a lot of Milestone drama; they are discontinuing the Huskey we bought 6 months ago, and with all of the cameras we have I re-reviewed the specs. The old unit is running Windows10RT. It I priced on the high end and has no RAID. After a brief Dance with legal, they wanted a much stronger system. We are getting a dell 2016 Server that has a HW Raid card with RAID 1+0 (AKA Raid 10). Milestone also has some odd licensing hoops I now need to jump through. We are going to run 5 CAT cables and stick a 16 port encoder in place. We will replace some of the analog cameras with the 1 MP format, and change a couple to Ballons. We cannot re-run the cable without tearing up the ceiling. If you want more details, please feel free to message me.

We did a covert shootout recently. Please see: Covert IP Camera Shootout - Axis, Hanwha, Hikvision, March, Vivotek

Thanks John! I had already looked at the shoot-out. I was just curious about the factory/rumor

There is no connection between Hanwha and Hikvision that I have ever heard. That's a weird rumor.

That is what I thought, but my var seemed sure...

John, do you have a high def analog camera shootout? or a test of different Ballon systems; we have a ceiling we can't run cable in and are verifying our options...

We don't have an HD analog camera shootout but it is in the works. There has been a number of newer releases recently so we are considering.
