Sony SNC-VM630 camera has WDR equivalent to 90 dB with View-DR technology. This brand also has true WDR. The Visibility Enhancer uses non-linear amplification to adjust the dark and light portion of the video. The best image is achieved by turning on WDR which uses the multiple frame averaging technique.

AXIS P1365 Fixed Network Camera has WDR-Forensic Capture: Up to 120 dB depending on scene.

Axis markets four forms of WDR: Dynamic Contrast, Dynamic Capture, Forensic Capture, and simply "WDR." Of these, Dynamic and Forensic Capture  as well as WDR are true multi-exposure methods.

1) AXIS Communications claims that the "P3225-LV Mk II is a streamlined fixed dome that provides HDTV 1080p video. It features a varifocal lens and remote zoom and focus, which eliminates the need for hands-on fine tuning. Equipped with WDR – Forensic Capture to handle scenes with strong variations in light, Fine tuning of behavior at different light levels, WDR - forensic capture: Up to 120 dB depending on scene..."

At 120dB, I believe that the P3225 line does feature true WDR.

2) The HikVision DS-2CD2142FWD-ISB 4 MP vandal-resistant network dome camera features 120dB Wide Dynamic Range.

At 120dB, I believe that the HikVision DS-2CD2142FWD- line does feature true WDR.

3)  The Bosch Flexidome 4000 claims True Wide Dynamic Range although it is rated at a maximum of 54 dB.

At only 54 dB causes e to believe that their claims of True WDR are misleading .

I'm looking up three different Vivotek cameras:

1.) Vivotek IB8338-H claims to have "true WDR Pro".

2.) Vivotek IP8365H, similar to the above camera, offers "true WDR Pro".

3.) Vivotek SD8364E is the third camera in this lineup and it also offers WDR. This camera does not offer any dB specifications, however, so I'm skeptical as to whether this is true or if the manufacturer is just making a claim.

Overall it looks like most Vivotek cameras that claim to have WDR really do have it, which is a great sign. Like we learned, it's hard to tell for sure how good it is unless we were to do testing.

Axis P3225-VE Mk 2: WDR - Forensic Capture, no dB given

The axis camera with it´s WDR - Forensic Capture led me a white paper on their homepage about AXIS WDR methods. I would like to hear if IPVM had done some testing on cameras with the Forensic WDR or/and WDR - Forensic capture. My conclusion is that the Axis P3225-VE Mk2 has True WDR with enhancments  

Forensic WDR is a combination of dual exposure and a local contrast enhancement method. It provides images that are tuned for maximal forensic usability. Employing the latest generation of image processing algorithms, this technology effectively reduces visible noise and artifacts. Forensic WDR is suitable also in scenes with motion and in ultra high resolution cameras.

WDR - forensic capture is a combination of dual exposure and a local contrast enhancement method. It provides an image that is tuned for maximal forensic usability.

WDR - dynamic capture uses a dual-exposure method for merging images with different exposure times. The dynamic range is limited by artifacts, for example related to motion and flickering.

WDR - dynamic contrast uses a contrast enhancement method with fairly limited dynamic range but with very few artifacts. Since only one exposure is used, this solution performs well in scenes with a lot of motion.

Above is the DS-2DF8225IH produced by Hikvision which offers a digital WDR, with darkfigherX technology to enhance low light scenes. Given that it is a digital WDR it is not a true WDR camera.

Above is the AXIS P1435-LE. This camera has WDR, lightfinder tech., and zipstream all in one which allows the lightfinder to accumulate light in dimmer scenes and then transition to the forensic WDR when there are a lot of variable light sources in the area of interest. As far as I know all Axis cameras are true WDR. The Db rating is up to 120 in certain scenes.

Above is the DS-2DE5330W-AE, produced by Hikvision. This camera comes in at 92Db and also uses a digital WDR which is not true WDR.

The camera specification says it’s True Wide Dynamic Range rating is 120dB. This is supposed to be a good figure, but the specifications also states that it has color video until 0.02 lux. When I checked how it does this color at night, I found that it states how the WDR helps at night is in situations where we have street lights, flood lights, night lights providing more light in one part of the scene than the other.
