Startup: The Bublcam

Multi-imager fisheye cameras are not new, but a startup is releasing a camera that can see in any direction all at once. Bubl is more than a 360 fisheye camera, because it has lenses built into a sphere with images all stiched together in a single continuous image.

What's more, after preselling more than $300k, the company has set its sights on the video surveillance market. Are they ready? In this note we look at BublCam [link no longer available].

Looks cool, at this point I am more interested in it for use as a gopro alternative than in a security application.

I actually pleged this a few months ago the $499. I am excited to use it for action sports stuff. MTB, Gas Powered RC Cars. I see no use for this in other then fun and games. The fact they tested this out at Tomorrowland is awesome that is where I would see great use of it in large crowds.

Yes, use as Sporting, good. Anyways you have none other options for baseball camera. But will it out last?

The other thing my friend just told me would be hiking trails. Map the hiking trails with GPS from a phone to go along with the video. I am not sure how much water and moisture it could handle also. But time will soon tell when it arrives.

I'm not really sure you really need video that hogs up more bandwidth. I think it would be more valuable to have better images (Still frame/s) specifically in larger crowds and gatherings. I think the Panono Ball has something that could provide useful. You can throw it in the air above you in mobile situations, mount it, or hold it up with your hand. Something like this going off at certain time intervals...if mounted or manually going off if tossed in air would be more useful. Not necessarily to prevent crime, but to track it after and so on.

I love the Panono - I want one. But I agree with the others - these cameras are novelty's and not what I'd spec for security.
