Looking For A Tool To Identify, Proactively And Remotely, Cameras Offline

I am looking for some advice for proactive identification remotely of a single camera disconnect (not the NVR being offline).  Is there a tool anyone has used that is effective for this versus having to do a daily audit of all cameras?

Hello U1 - You may want to check out this guide on SNMP for Video Surveillance.  You can monitor much more than just cameras.

You can receive alerts for an outage, but also receive alerts that are likely to cause an outage (memory usage, CPU utilization, tempature, etc.).

I would recommend using SolarWinds if you have the time and wherewithal to setup everything up. We monitor over 2000 cameras via this method and it has a pretty high success rate.

I agree that SolarWinds is a great solution, but unless you are in a corporate environment I have heard it is pricey.  I used it at my previous employer and I am setting it up here as well.  Works great, but again I think it is a higher end solution.

I got very lucky with the customer that is currently running SolarWinds. They were already utilizing the software for other IT Devices on the network and we came to an agreement with their IT Department to have the CCTV System added to the software.

Are you looking for an automated health monitoring system for NVR/DVR devices or computer/server based NVR's?

Are you looking to verify that the cameras themselves are network addressable/ping-able?

Or are you looking for something more in-depth like verifying live/playback is available on the NVR/VMS?

Do you have any particular cameras/NVRs/VMSs in mind? Or are you looking for something that is agnostic or ONVIF-only for example?

Check out Neptus. Specifically for the security industry. Even saves snapshot images of cameras for customisable durations.

We are trying a product from SnapAV called ovrc.

What I like is it creates a connection to the device so you can access it's GUI. They also have a line of switches and power supplies that can auto reboot or be managed remotely.
