Axis WDR Management Q35 Series

Stupid question.

I config events on my Q3517s and Q3518s to turn WDR off at night, and back on again in the day...this is due to the fact that WDR degrades low-light performance.  Some of my cameras do not even need to go into IR mode because they look amazingly well in color mode at night...

The thing that is annoying is that as seasons change, I have to manually change the time for the switch.  Has anyone managed to config an Axis camera event to provide an input that detects dusk/dawn or to adjust based on season?

I can't use day/night mode select because my image looks so good at night that it stays in day mode...

PS.  Both Q3517s and Q3518s look amazing in low light.

You can use this non-AXIS ACAP application to do what you need:

Daybreak Me

I just leave WDR on.

I have 8 of the 3517’s in operation and love them.  I don’t see any degradation in low light with WDR on vs off.  I definitely did see this with previous generation cameras (like P3364 era) but not lately.  +1 for Daybreak Me on those cams though.

That is shocking...I see huge low-light degradation with 2x3517s and 2x3518s with WDR on vs. off.  It is important to also keep the IR filter on auto.

Hmm I’ll try and get some snapshots to compare.  I leave my IR cut on auto with the slider set to about 80%.  (My application is all natural light and I need them to switch to IR a bit earlier to maintain quality at 1/100s.   They are easily the best camera I’ve ever used for low light.)

OK - out of curiosity I just checked 2 of my cameras.  I left one in auto (with IR cut off), and the other I forced to IR cut on to test low-light color.  I honestly don't see much of a difference between them with WDR on vs. WDR off.  In fact on the camera in color, I would almost say it's a bit better with WDR on (although this may be just an artifact from the camera adjusting after turning on WDR).
