VMS System 6.3 Updates

By: John Honovich, Published on Mar 31, 2010

In March 2010, Cisco announced a series of updates for their VMS product offering (Video Surveillance Manager Version 6.3). The key enhancements include:

  • Integrated health monitoring for servers and IP cameras
  • Thumbnail based search
  • Remote server upgrade ('over the wire')
  • Starter kit available - server and 4 cameras bundled

The VMS enhancements are all low level but solid improvements. Thumbnail search is becoming increasingly common among VMS providers. Health monitoring and remote upgrades tend to be weak in VMS offerings so these could be positive differentiators.

Additionally, a 5 inch HD H.264 dome camera was announced. This is the first Pelco co-branded camera.

In a YouTube video, Cisco's Product marketing manager discusses product enhancements for their physical security products.
