Hybrid Option Launched

TimeSight, a VMS manufacturer best known for their storage optimization technology, has added on-board analog capture cards, enabling their NVRs to become hybrid. Called ACE [link no longer available], the 16 channel capture cards have an $1,800 MSRP. The card can be field upgraded or ordered as an option for 2 of Timesight's 4 appliance options (1 card/16 channels for the small business line and 4 cards/64 channels for the Office line).

The economics of using an on-board capture card are compelling. The per channel MSRP is $110 USD (significantly less costly than encoder appliances and less expensive to setup and maintain).

While a number of IP video manufacturers maintain an almost religious objection to supporting analog directly, customer demand is likely to force all sensible providers to offer this option.
