Milestone has announced an upgrade for its XProtect Enterprise VMS software, moving from 6.5 to 7.0. In this release, Milestone focuses on enhanced administration interface and tools.
Key enhancements include System configuration wizards, Automated device discovery and Smart bulk configuration options.
Administration features in previous Enterprise version (6.5 and prior) were rudimentary and required lots of tedious, time consuming manual steps. The most common issue was in adding new cameras where administrators often had to find a specific IP camera model in a list of over 100 choices. 7.0 looks to rectify such limitations.
A video below overviews some of the new 7.0 features:
Milestone's other VMS platform for large scale deployments, the Corporate edition, already has most of these features. However, Corporate is newer and the majority of Milestone's deployments use Enterprise (including the lower end Professional and SMB versions).
Some of these features are likely to be a competitive advantage to rival VMS companies. However, some features, such as IP camera auto discovery, resolve deficiencies compared to many other VMS systems.
