Join me in welcoming Donald Maye to IPVM! Don is IPVM's first head of marketing.
Don graduated with an MBA from the NYU Stern School and a BS From the US Military Academy at West Point. Don has worked as a brand manager for multi-national companies as well as serving in the US Army in Afghanistan.
I am excited to have Don join because he combines strategic skills and expertise plus an appreciation of the importance of security.
Given IPVM's criticism of various marketing initiatives, I wanted to explain what we aim to do with our marketing and with Don leading it.
First, we are not trying to do traditional industry marketing, i.e., 'thought leadership' nor are we trying to make wild claims or do SEO spam campaigns, etc. Indeed, Don does not come from any of those backgrounds.
As we have gotten bigger (our team is now ~15 people), we need to have a more coherent and planned approach to communication and member success.
On the communications side, we have ongoing publications, software releases, initiatives, courses, etc. Historically, no one has owned the communication of these things, making the process convoluted and the output limited. Don will make sure we are much better, more timely and clear with our communications about what we are doing and what we plan to do.
On the member side, we strive to release informative and interesting reports and features, but it is done generally by gut and while members and revenue continue to increase every year, as we get bigger, we need to do this better. We want to better understand why people join, why they do not join, what makes them successful with IPVM, what makes them cancel, why they share with co-workers, to whom and how we can better build features, reports or solutions to help members, etc.
I am confident than Don can lead us on marketing across these various areas and welcome him to IPVM.
