Unifi Video - Any Experiences?

For years I've installed Exacq, AD, Samsung(Ip and Analog), Hikvision(Kits), Pelco (Spectra and Housing). In recent months I've seen an increase in Unifi Cameras. I've had great experiences with Unifi Wifi, but haven't tried their cameras out.

I'm looking for some feedback. My client base ranges from local government, small business and mining.

what is the target market for this unifi equip? Any good/Bad experiences?

Biggest issue is they only work with UBNT software.   You can find many other options in this price range that have better image quality and are open to other VMS offerings.

Also, you have to factor in getting UBNT product.  Alot of times it out of stock and you have to hunt around to find UBNT product.

Thanks for the feedback. From the customers prospective I don't see those as deal breakers.

I'm looking at unifi as a potential part of my offering. If I have a range of products to offer my clients, I should be able to fit their budget and requirements.

I would not install a hikvision kit at a mine (I don't trust their durability in harsh environments or their ethics in publicly traded companies) and I would not install axis/Exacq in a low budget carwash  (the client would not benefit from the added cost)

So,  I'm trying to figure out where unifi fits. They are a bit more expensive than hikvision and much less expensive than exacq/milestone. They do not integrate with other cameras or access control systems.

It seems to me that network admins like their cameras but maybe the security industry does not.

Maybe I'll just buy one and try it out...

We picked up a client and they have about 20 apartment communities running all UBNT hardware. Cameras, switches, wireless etc. We have several more lined up with them

Long story short IT department picked this equipment, not us.

Software seems to be easy to use, but you can't add a camera until it is installed. We use Dahua mostly and we can add all cameras to the NVR before install, and as they are installed, they come up in the app and can be aimed. Unifi picks them up but you have to move them from unmanaged to managed before the app picks them up.

This is our 2nd install and slowly we are taking over more and more control from their IT department so they can focus on other items. So we are learning it.

My biggest gripe is they use 2 cameras. A bullet and a dome. Both are 2MP, non varifocal. The dome is not 3 axis so it can not go on a wall and I do not think there is a mount. The lens cover is very cheap plastic and it twists right off.

Plus it is all proprietary. They are not ONVIF compatible, they wont integrate with anything else unless using RTSP, and nothing can integrate with them.

I am just going to say I think these are the wrong cameras for this application.

I tried them and hated them. I generally love UBNT gear, but their cameras are not up to my expectations. They are below DIY level IMO. They are for the IT guy that knows nothing about cameras and has to install something to appease his boss.
