Storefront Aluminum And Video Intercoms

Has anybody tried to push the boundaries of on the location of where video intercoms/call buttons are located (thinking of a 2N device)?

For example having the storefront provider add an extra piece next to the door for a flush or surface mounting approach so the person continues to be in view of the camera after the initial interaction?

Or is it acceptable to the client just to mount the device 6-8 ft away on a solid wall?
