The University of Phoenix has a horrific reputation. Why would our industry want to associate with them?
There are hundreds of articles on their problems, investigations, lawsuits, etc. A recap on Wikipedia screencaped below:
And the company is facing significant declines in attendance, e.g.:
The University of Phoenix claimed a peak enrollment of almost 600,000 students in 2010, but its numbers have declined sharply since then. Enrollment was 142,500 in August 31, 2016. Various reasons have been given for the enrollment drop (and more than 100 campus closings).
Weaker, 'for-profit' colleges continue to close. University of Phoenix's has real challenges to whether or not it will even exist a decade from now.
Our industry is not that big on having degrees anyway so why go to University of Phoenix?
A degree from Phoenix normally costs more than "a real school", meaning an accredited nonprofit college or university. So yeah, I mean I would take it if they paid for books, class fees, etc. but I would much rather get a degree from a nonprofit school with a little weight behind it.
Evidently, University of Phoenix is declining sharply, from a new article: The University of Phoenix’s online enrollment plummets while Western Governors and Southern New Hampshire near 100,000 students as they vie to rule the roost.:
At its peak in 2010, Phoenix enrolled more than 470,000 students. That number had slid to 130,000 students by 2016. And last year the university closed 20 of its campus locations and laid off hundreds of employees.
That's interesting. Bubbles always pop, even education/ 'non-profit' bubbles.
