Anyone know of any decent security based podcasts? Driving from job to job i like to listen to podcasts. Found some decent IPSec podcasts but havent found anything for electronic security and such.

Thanks :)

#1, good question! There's been a few attempts over the years. The one that I can recall off the top of my head is SecurityGuyRadio. He's got a great radio voice / personality and, for our industry, I think the production quality is quite high. On the other hand, the interviews he does tend to be quite simplistic / uncritical as he is there more to promote / advertise participants.

Here's a list of his videos on YouTube and below is one with Dahua:

Hope this helps, hopefully others have recommendations.

I've thought about doing a podcast. I did a few videos for my company's blog, just to see what it was like. I rewatched the videos after they were posted, and it didn't come out too badly.

I might do a podcast one day in the future, if I can ever make the time.

if I can ever make the time

One of the time challenges we have found is that it is hard to justify the time to do a podcast.

For example, in 6 months, the average video below has received 8 views:

Now, whether the fault is because people don't care about the content or people don't know about this channel, can be debated. However, we have seen similar patterns (though, of course, much higher than 8 views) that make me skeptical of the value of podcasting in this space.

I hate podcasts, especially videos, for this type of information sharing.  They are nearly impossible to skim through, and you are typically stuck with whatever pace the podcast takes (yes, I am aware YouTube can play back at higher speeds).

For things that are very visual, like a discussion on the tear-down of a camera, a podcast or video might be more efficient.

Beyond that, the LAST thing our industry needs right now is even more content that does nothing other than lob softball questions to manufacturers or provide non-critical information summary.

That is my personal issue generally. I think other people are looking for more entertainment/background listening which fits better for this.

On the other hand, I think there definitely is room for an audio-only podcast that covers industry news or general physical security topics in a thoughtful way.

I spend a lot of time driving for my current job, and listening to podcasts makes it a lot less boring. I would certainly subscribe to a security centric podcast if I could find a good one, but one doesn’t exist that I know of.

On the plus side, I now know a lot more about World War One and the fall of the Roman Empire.

The main question is how to cover the costs to do an ongoing series. Perhaps someone can get a sponsor, i.e., "Manufacturer X presents", etc.

Oh and I just remember another one - SecurityInterviews.com but last episode is from 2015.

Same here. I drive quite a bit. Podcasts help me get through the ride and it is probably the best type of media i can digest during that time. Surprisingly the state of Massachusetts frowns upon watching Youtube while operating a motor vehicle:p

I was hoping there was some hidden podcast out there that wasn't sales driven. As it is i haven't found any yet.

Ari,

If there was anyone I know in this industry that I would listen to during my long drive times like lots of us have - it would be you.

Reason #1 (and the most important):  You are not boring.

Reason #2:  You are as smart as anyone I know.

Reason #3:  You are one of the funniest and wittiest people I know.

Reason #4:  You grew up in this industry and knew stuff at age 14 that most still don't know, nor know that we don't know.

I have even more reasons, but I don't want to bore people who don't know Ari.

*For the obtuse, the above was me pimping myself out to be Ari's first on-air guest.

Another one: SSN Leadership Talks, 20 minute YouTube videos, mostly just lets participants talk about their offerings, like others cited here, extremely low views.
