Does anyone know the physical installation requirements for installing access control and intrusion detection in SCIF rooms?

The rabbit hole of requirements begins here: ICS-705-1

Depending on the agency or organization that is adopting it, their own variation of SCIF may further require, define, or restrict products from being used.

Reach out to the local UL2050 contact.  Find out if you are to certify the SCIF or if the end user will be certifying.  It makes a HUGE difference.   From there, the guidelines aren’t really that difficult.

Thanks, the end user is certifying.

I actually taught the CCTV and IDS portion of predecessor course for DNI to the ICS 705 it was DCID 6/9. Brian is exactly right.  There is a lot to SCIF construction so even though you are not doing the rest, I.e. walls, doors, shielding make sure you read the full ICD and ICS 705 documents to be familiar with the requirements.

Start reading and have fun...it ain't too bad once you do a few. Just remember that whatever you take into a SCIF isn't coming out (once the room is live).

So, much like fire work, there can be more than one AHJ.   Start with the FSO.  They are your guide.

They aren’t more difficult than installing a UL jewelry store, but the equipment needs to be listed, devices and boxes need to be tampered, communications has to be approved, and depending on the walls and ceiling you may have to lace ducts, install in ceiling motion detectors and such.

Depending on the use of the room it may have Tempest requirements in addition.  At that point any cabling entering and exiting has to have very expensive filters on them and some other additional items.

I have worked in many an active SCIF, however I had a secret clearance for those areas and that was before areas had limited billets for access.

We set up several with access control and most were required to have the database of users as well as the PC operating the system located entirely in the SCIF.

Its been a long time for me, but I have a few friends that have their own UL2050 SCIF’s and are listed to install UL2050 and provide certificates.  I made friends with the UL inspector for UL2050 and that helped.
