Rosslare Readers And Cards

A client wants to pull out a Rosslare system and Rosslare reader and replace it with ... well anything was the words they used.

But they do not want to replace fobs. I am trying to pull up the Rosslare site but it may be down. Are most or all of their readers weigand compatible and can they be used on other systems? Maybe alarm.com which uses Mercury boards.

Yes, this is the case.  Rosslare generally means Weigand is supported.

If you don't mind keeping their readers, then they will probably connect over Wiegand protocol (D0/D1) to pretty much any access control system. If you get rid of the readers and want to keep only the cards, it will be more complicated trying to find a new reader that can read the Rosslare cards

Thanks. The reason for reusing the readers is they do not want to buy new fobs.

It's only one door to a pool area,so this is pretty small, almost a service call. And some camera work. But it comes from a larger client/referral source so we have to take the small with the big...

Replacing the reader and 200 fobs for one door would be a big hit.

Can you get a loaner and test it? sounds like a pretty easy install with like an HID Edge or similar, just get one of their fobs and scan it. RFIDeas has a great tool for their USB readers. that will spit out whatever data the card gives it, so you'll know what you're dealing with and can spec from there.

ok, so you can keep the reader and fobs and choose an access system that supports Wiegand wiring (you will have LOTS of options). Those cards are most probably 26-bit standard and that will also be supported by just about every single access system out there.

Make sure to connect the wiring of the reader correctly to your new system:

The wiring should be shielded. The shield of the wire needs to be connected to an earth ground (NOT to the - of the panel) but should NOT be connected to the shield of the reader. The shield of the reader should be floating (cut it if you have to). The wiring should not be twisted on the D0/D1 line. If the previous installer used twisted pair for the reader, be sure that you use 2 wires that are not twisted together for D0/D1.

If it is W26B cards and they do not want to replace fobs, just send them the link on how to clone the cards for all the end users. You mention pool area, makes me think of a home owner association that has a private pool in a housing cul-de-sac or a pool for an apartment complex, those guys never have no money borderline residential bids. If the hood can clone the cards then everyone and their great grandfather will be in that pool.  :D
