I was wondering if you had some good sources on the laws of recording audio/video in both public places and inside businesses, as well as just where it is permissible to put cameras. This is particularly in California.

Thanks!!

California is a two-party consent law for audio.  It is illegal to record audio without the consent of all parties in the conversation.

For Video it is pretty much any public area.

What is considered consent? By posting a sign saying audio/video recording in progress?

Consent is someone giving permission for something to happen.

Louroe guy here.

The above is true where there is an expectation of confidential communications (there is code and case law referred to in Vincent's link).  This part is key - see paragraph 2 of the linked page for a good explaination.

We have audio units used in many types of locations from law enforcement installs, to education facilities, hospitals, retailers, and others.

Thank you Cameron. That answers my question.
